Robertson calls for Scotland to build on draw with England

Scotland captain Andy Robertson has rallied his side ahead of their final group game against Croatia and has told them to make sure their point against England doesn’t count for nothing.

Steve Clarke’s side produced a brilliant performance to keep the Three Lions at bay on Friday night as they earned their first point of the tournament.

The Scots could quite easily have taken all three points were it not for some wayward finishing, and Robertson has claimed England could have had no complaints if Scotland had won the game and that his side need to build on the point.

“I thought we were the better team,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live (via BBC Sport). “On another night we could have won it and I don’t think anyone can really argue with that.

“The feeling that we have now, the feeling that the fans have, it’s important we keep that and it’s not for nothing. We take it down to the last game and that’s all we ask. We have to use it to get out of the group.”

While the entire Scotland team performed admirably at Wembley, one man in particular who stood out was Motherwell’s Stephen O’Donnell.

The right-back endured a nightmare start to Euro 2020 after his shocking display against the Czech Republic in Scotland’s opener, but he bounced back in style against England and has heaped praise on Clarke for continuing to show faith in his ability.

“The only point I need to prove is to the manager,” he said. “Time and again, he is questioned about me and sticks by me. It’s a great feeling to have when a manager trusts me and hopefully I repaid some of that.”

Scotland face Croatia on Tuesday at Hampden Park knowing they need to win if they are to stand any chance of progressing from Group D.
