Kevin De Bruyne & Eden Hazard injury update

Kevin De Bruyne failed to train with Belgium on Wednesday but Eden Hazard managed half a session ahead of their side’s Euro 2020 quarter-final clash against Italy on Friday.

Each player was forced off before the end of the Red Devils’ 1-0 win over Portugal in the round of 16.

De Bruyne was hit with a late tackle by Portuguese enforcer Joao Palhinha just before half time. Initially the Manchester City man tried to carry on, though he was eventually forced to withdraw with an ankle injury.

Meanwhile, Hazard pulled up with a suspected muscle strain in the closing stages. The knock is the latest in a long line of injury problems for the Real Madrid forward. After the game Roberto Martinez cast doubt over the pair’s availability for the Italy game and his initial assessment shows little sign of being wrong.

According to RTBF Sport, neither Hazard nor De Bruyne took part in the first portion of Belgium training on Wednesday with Lyon defender Jason Denayer also missing out. However, after his initial absence Hazard did link up with his teammates.

We will likely know more about the availability of both players when Martinez speaks to the press on Thursday. For now though, De Bruyne‘s involvement seems unlikely while Hazard could feature in some capacity.

Belgium will be keen to have two of their best known performers available for the game as Italy have looked extremely impressive so far. In the group stages they scored ten goals and conceded just once.

Despite this, they made hard work of their round of 16 tie against Austria. With the scores level after 90 minutes it took extra time strikes from Federico Chiesa and Matteo Pessina to ensure their progression.

The game will be played at the Allianz Arena in Munich, which should ensure a fairly even mix of supporters.
