Efes beats Fenerbahce, takes 1-0 lead in Turkish Finals
Freshly crowned Turkish Airlines EuroLeague champion Anadolu Efes Istanbul carried its great momentum into the Turkish League finals by thrashing Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul 111-71 in Game 1 at Sinan Erdem Dome. Efes took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five series and hosts Game 2 on Friday. Shane Larkin led the winners with 23 points. Vasilije Micic added 19, Bugrahan Tuncer had 12, Chris Singleton and Dogus Balbay each got 11 while Rodrigue Beaubois and Adrien Moerman contributed 10 apiece for Efes. Melih Mahmutoglu led Fenerbahce with 19 points. Nando De Colo added 14 while Jan Vesely had 11. Marko Guduric and De Colo combined for all points in an 0-8 run that gave Fenerbahce an early 3-10 lead. Beaubois and Bryant Dunston each dunked and Micic struck from downtown but De Colo and Jan Vesely kept the guests in charge, 13-19. Larkin and Balbay each buried a three-pointer to tie the game, 21-21, after 10 minutes. Larkin kept pacing Efes, getting help from Sertac Sanli and Singleton to give their team a 33-28 lead. Vesely and Mahmutoglu fueled a 0-6 Fenerbahce run but Larkin, Micic and Singleton allowed Efes to keep a 43-40 edge at halftime. Mahmutoglou scored again right after the break but Efes showed its best version right after that. Larkin and Micic combined for 15 points in a game-breaking 22-3 run highlighted by Dunston’s dunk off a steal. Efes got a 65-45 margin, extended it to 80-51 at the end of the third quarter and never looked back.
