Chelsea are preparing to communicate that they are to withdraw from the proposed Super League, according to various sources.
The BBC’s Dan Roan was among those to confirm the news on social media on Tuesday evening, ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League fixture with Brighton.
Chelsea are among 12 clubs – six from the Premier League – who issued statements confirming their desire to break away from UEFA competition and form a closed, elite league on Sunday night.
Fans have gathered outside Stamford Bridge on Tuesday evening to protest the decision, and the latest suggestions are that the Blues are the first of the original 12 clubs to give notice they want out.
